Former Fulham goalkeeper Antti Niemi has long tipped Jesse Joronen for a bright future in the game and the Finland international doesn’t want to disappoint.

During his several years at the Club, the young stopper has made significant strides despite injury and competition for a starting spot limiting his contribution early on. However, such is his natural grasp of the position, Joronen is still considered a top prospect.

The command and governance that he demonstrates within his box belie his tender years, while his capacity for a seemingly impossible save never fails to catch the eye. In 2011/12 he represented Finland's 'A' team in a game against Trinidad and Tobago, while in January 2013 he made his full debut for his country in a King's Cup match against Thailand.

Having worked closely with the young keeper in the past, Niemi has tipped him for the top. Determined and committed, Joronen now enters an important phase of his personal development. He signed a short-term loan deal with Maidenhead United in October 2012 to aid his progress. The deal was later extended until 12th January 2013.

On 3rd May of the same year, Joronen returned to his homeland to join FC Lahti on loan until 5th August 2013.

During the 2013/14 season, he made eight league and cup appearances for Fulham's Under-21s and was also an unused substitute for the First Team towards the end of the campaign.

He was later rewarded with a new two-year deal, tying him to the Club until the summer of 2016.

After making four First Team appearances under Felix Magath at the start of the 2014/15 season, he joined Accrington Stanley on a one-month loan deal on Friday 17th October.

A serious injury curtailed his progress, though, and he spent the remainder of the campaign fighting his way back to full fitness.

The 2015/16 campaign saw Jorenen move to League 2 side, Stevenage on a 6 month loan deal in late August.  Despite his loan deal being cut short after suffering a thigh injury.  Boro boss, Teddy Sheringham was full of praise for the stopper.  Joronen’s season will be best remembered for his goal against Wycombe in a 2-1 victory, where he scored from just outside his own box.
