Fulham lost 2-1 at Adams Park against Reading on Monday evening in the PL2.

Fulham lost 2-1 at Adams Park against Reading on Monday evening in the PL2. Sam Smith scored a brace for the hosts, with Elijah Adebayo levelling in between just after the break.

Last time out the Fulham lost 3-2 at Craven Cottage, in a tight contest with Aston Villa.

The first attack came from the Whites, Sean Kavanagh slipped a ball through to Stephen Humphrys who was central. He stepped past his man with a burst of pace and curled an effort at goal.

George Legg, in goal for the Royals, was forced to dive and push the shot past his post with a fingertip save.

It was Fulham again with the next attack, with Adebayo charging towards the box and he was chopped down 25-yards from goal. Humphrys and Kavanagh stood over the ball.  Humphrys shot at goal and his effort hit the wall, sending it out for a corner.

In the ninth minute Mikolaj Kwietneiwski did well to steal the ball on the right wing, and was pulled down just outside the area.

Kavanagh floated a ball into the packed area, Humphrys got a touch with his head, and Adebayo was at the back post. With the ball at an awkward height, he couldn’t steer a shot on target.

In the 14th minute Kavanagh darted towards the box to latch onto a through ball but was taken out by Danny Loader. The free kick was taken by Jon Dagur Thorsteinsson this time, but he too couldn’t get it over the wall.

It was a strong opening 20 minutes for the Whites, they were having the better chances and spending far more time in the Royals’ half.

In the 25th minute the deadlock was broken, however it was Reading who scored against the run of play. Smith was put through on goal, and from close range he shot on target.

Magnus Norman did well to get low and make the save, but he couldn’t keep the ball in his gloves, and Smith knocked the rebound into the back of the net.

The goal changed the dynamics of the game and Reading were getting on the ball far more than previously.

Humphrys had the next close call in the 40th minute, he fizzed a shot low and on target. The keeper had to drop quickly to keep it out of the back of his net.

The second half kicked off and the Whites were looking strong from the start. Adebayo was played through on goal in the 49th minute, with the keeper rushing out he slipped it under him to bring the game deservedly level at 1-1.

Six minutes later and Reading put their noses in front once more. Josh Barrett cut into the box from the left wing, and shot towards goal.

His effort was blocked by Rob Atkinson, but Smith was on hand to poke the rebound into the back of the net for his second, making it 2-1.

The Whites did their best to try get back on level terms. In the 61st minute Felix broke down the right and crossed towards the far post, Humphrys could only head over the bar.

Humphrys had a couple of similar chances ten minutes later, and Adebayo managed to head on target from a Thorsteinsson cross, but couldn’t get the power needed to beat Legg.

In the 86th minute Adebayo won a corner, the cross was cleared but only as far as Tayo Edun. He struck the ball on the half volley, with the ball moving wildly the keeper did well to stop it.

Fulham kept trying till the last minute, but weren’t able to break down the Reading defence, as saw out the match winners.
